Future City Challenge

Applied urban planning competition on mahalla master plans

Urban Challenge is an applied platform focused on redesigning local territories based on modern urban planning approaches.

Participating teams develop a comprehensive development concept by integrating socio-economic conditions, infrastructure capacity, and environmental factors of the selected area.

Territorial Analysis

Conduct an in-depth analysis of the current condition and development potential of red-category neighborhoods

Master Plan

Develop a master plan as an integrated urban planning solution

Teamwork

Create an innovative project collaboratively in a team of 2-3 students

Environmental Sustainability

Competition Assignments

Each team must complete 6 core tasks

Territorial Analysis

Analyze the current state of the area using demographic, social, and economic indicators

Development Potential

Identify development opportunities and strategically assess strengths and weaknesses

Development Strategy

Formulate a development strategy based on short-, medium-, and long-term goals

Investment Projects

Develop investment and infrastructure projects with financial justification and economic efficiency

Master Plan Project

Prepare an integrated master plan with a main drawing in A1 format and urban planning solutions

Lot Passports

Prepare 3 lot passports as detailed technical documents for each site

Materials Provided to Teams

  • Static neighborhood data of a "red-category" mahalla (demographic, socio-economic)
  • Resident survey results
  • Topographic map of the area (scale 1:1000)
  • Photographic materials
  • Relevant sections of "ShNQ 1.03.02-23"

Required Deliverables

  • Main drawing - A1 format (scale 1:1000 or 1:2000)
  • Explanatory note - 10-15 pages, A4 format
  • Lot passports - 3 copies, A4 format
  • Economic calculation table - A4 format
  • Digital submission - in PDF and AutoCAD/Revit formats

Competition Stages

The competition is conducted in two stages

Stage One

Design

Teams prepare the area master plan, explanatory note, and required graphic materials within the allotted time.

Defense

Teams present their projects before the jury and answer questions.
